How did you get into racing endurance events?

There was a series of swim-run events on Maui called the AluminuMan when I lived on the island. It called itself the "not so serious race series" and introduced me to open water swimming. My first swims included fins and a snorkel, but they gave me the confidence to move over to traditional swimming and allowed me to pursue my first triathlon.


If applicable, what is your favorite discipline? Why?

Cycling. My swim deficit puts me in a great position to pass a lot of cyclists!


Do you have a favorite local race?

Raleigh 70.3


What would you consider your career highlight?

Competing in the 2012 Kona Ironman.


What would you consider your biggest challenge?

Overcoming limiting beliefs.


What is the biggest race day mistake you've made?

Not eating on the bike portion of my first 70.3. Let's just say the run that day was harder then I anticipated!


What is one training tool you couldn't live without?

The kitchen blender.


Do you have a strict nutrition/recovery regimen?

I drink a fresh fruit and vegetable smoothie on a daily basis. Otherwise I am flexible.


If you have any advice for folks who have yet to begin their endurance racing journey, what would it be?

Add a race to the calendar before you are ready. It is great motivation to complete the training.
