Warp Speed: noun - An extremely rapid rate of speed or state of activity.

This definition should have EB's picture next to it because she does nothing at a slow pace. A native of Charlotte and a founding member of EPT_Racing, you will most likely see Emily with her eyes set on a goal. She has now completed 2 full distance Ironman triathlons, with her eyes set on #IMNC in October of 2016.

She of course will not stop there. Chances are you have climbed a mountain, bought a bike, tried a recipe or even signed up for a race because she got you so excited about it, you simply had to come along for the warp speed ride with Mrs. Brinkley. This dedicated mother of two and loving wife knows no ends to her giving nature and vivacious spirit. All we can say is, “Have you been #Brinked?”

How did you get into Triathlon?
2011 I decided to pick up the sport and compete in the Lake Norman Sprint with one of my closest girlfriends, Allison. After training all summer long for the big day, I fell off my bike one week before the race and broke my elbow. I still went to cheer Allison on. The competitive atmosphere bit hard and the rest is history.

What is your favorite discipline?
Running, although it is a love/hate relationship. It's rewarding to see when hard work pays off, but just as humbling when you neglect it. I guess that comes with each of the three sports though.

What is your career highlight?
My career highlight is finishing Ironman Texas with a great big smile on my face. Best feeling ever.

And biggest challenge?
Nutrition. Trying to figure out what to eat to fuel my insane workout schedule without bonking – but also not to overdo it either.

Favorite local race?
Lake Norman Sprint – You’ll always love your first. Even if you did break your elbow.

What is the biggest race day mistake you’ve made that you’ll never forget? Ironman Texas: I chose to carry my own nutrition. After losing a bottle in the bike, I quickly had to go into “Oh Crap” mode, relying on course nutrition. It was also a mistake that showed me if I could get through the grueling marathon through all of that, I can get through anything. It made finishing that much sweeter.

What is your one training tool that you couldn’t live without?
My husband, friends, and my family. Raising two young boys while keeping up the crazy training load can be somewhat of a circus act. I am so blessed to be supported by those closest to me. I wouldn’t be able to do this sport I love so dearly without their help.

Do you have a strict nutrition regimen?
Depends on the day? I try to focus on eating real food. Not too much. Mostly veggies and fruit. It’s the ‘not too much’ I have issues with.

Recovery regimen?
Ice bath, foam roller, compression, and good ol’ naps. I am the Queen of sleep. If I don’t get a good 8 hours, please be warned, I might bite.

Goals for the upcoming year and beyond?
I’ve committed to Ironman North Carolina for 2016!
