If a gazelle would ever take a human form, we are pretty sure it would look like ‪#‎EPT_racing‬'s newest member, Jason Philbin. A family man at heart, and a freaky fast runner, Jason brings a different beginning to his triathlon hobby.

How did you get into triathlons?
I volunteered at Ironman World Championship while on vacation in Hawaii one year and absolutely fell in love with the event and sport. I felt really connected to the athletes like never before. I told myself “if I could swim I could do that”. I turned 40, and had Patty Waldron teach me how to swim. My first triathlon was Set Up Events White Lake Half (yeah, skip the sprints) where I found myself praying with Locke Stuart 30 seconds prior to the start. I’ll never forget that moment. Thanks Locke! Oh yeah, I did finish.

What is your favorite discipline?
Duh, running.

What is your career highlight?
It hasn’t happened yet! I know what it will be but that’s a secret.

And biggest challenge?
Swimming

Favorite local race?
PPD Beach2Battleship 70.3 was awesome. Tri Latta pretty good too. Big South 5k

What is the biggest race day mistake you’ve made that you’ll never forget?
It was a while ago…but I was racing a sprint running race, thought I had won and slowed down only to get passed at the finish line…..You have to race all the way to the finish line and don’t turn around and give the competition any hints that you are hurting.

What is your one training tool that you couldn’t live without?
Is coca cola a training tool for my caffeine fix?

Do you have a strict nutrition regimen?
Sorry folks, not me. Except I don’t eat much red meat. Loads of chicken, pasta and I’m a banana freak…..4 a day easily.

Recovery regimen?
Recoverite, chocolate flavored

Goals for the upcoming year and beyond?

Ironman Louisville in October….…not just to complete but compete. What “compete” means is between me and my coach right now.
