How did you get into racing endurance events?

I've run "for fun" since i can remember, was a swimmer from age 9 through high school, did a bunch of sprint tris after college, which made me fall back in love with running. 20 years later started running with groups and met this cool guy named Allen Strickland who insisted I train for a marathon, and he coached me to a BQ in my first one!

If applicable, what is your favorite discipline? Why?

running : ) because it's the best.

Do you have a favorite local race?

Thunder Road Half Marathon and Know Your Craft 5k!

What would you consider your career highlight?

winning the Run Sunset Beach Half Marathon {or} qualifying for Boston in a marathon where I wiped out and broke my big toe at mile 3.5.

What would you consider your biggest challenge?

fitting training into a busy schedule of being a mom to 2 boys ages 9 and 11 and working full time.

What is the biggest race day mistake you've made?

not looking where I was going and stepping in a hole to break my toe at mile 3.5 of the Santa Rosa Marathon.

What is one training tool you couldn't live without?

my Garmin 235

Do you have a strict nutrition/recovery regimen?

not strict : )
plain pancakes race on long-run mornings, open to suggestions for during (currently use honey stinger gels) and Vega One protein shake after.

If you have any advice for folks who have yet to begin their endurance racing journey, what would it be?

Train sooner than you think you need to.

Enjoy it! Don't let yourself get intimidated, you can do it!
