Carol Ann Hood is a core member of the EPT_Racing team, always bringing her A game to whatever discipline she is racing. Her background is in running, but seeing that she is 5'ft nothing, she brings an insanely fast bike split to any course.

Carol Ann Hood

Carol Ann is one of a handful of founding members of this team. She is someone you can always rely on when you need a partner for a long bike or run seeing that she is always in top shape and ready for a challenge. Carol Ann is a wife and a mom first, and a powerhouse triathlete second. Racing is already a family affair for the Hoods. Her daughters participate in kids distance triathlons, and you can usually find her husband Robbie joining in on one or two 70.3 during a season.

How did you get into Triathlon?
My sister actually got me into racing when I kept getting injured from running so much. Now I have surpassed her in the amount of races I have done. I was hooked after my first one (Tri Ballantyne.)

What is your favorite discipline?
The run by far. I ran way before I ever learned to swim or ride a bike.

What is your career highlight?
Completing my first Ironman in 2015 in Chattanooga, TN. It was one of the best days ever!

And biggest challenge?
Probably not believing in myself. I always compare myself to others and need to learn to focus on me and what I can do. I also carry 'Mommy guilt.' I try to train around the kids schedules. luckily they do like to do some local short races as a family some and are very supportive. They both grew up in the jogging stroller so they are used to regimen of my training.

Favorite local race?
I don't really have one. Each race is so different. I might like the swim better in one race and the bike in another, etc.

What is the biggest race day mistake you’ve made that you’ll never forget?
The biggest mistake was not being mentally prepared for Raleigh 70.3. I had some mishaps such as losing my running shoes, tearing a big hole in the crotch of my swim skin while waiting for the start, my power meter on my bike wouldn't work and it was just a calamity of errors! After finishing, I had to rewire my brain for days like that. There will always be things that happen, but its how you handle them that can make or break you!

What is your one training tool that you couldn’t live without?
My friends and family first! They are my rock! My garmin 920 and any other device I can get a hold of. I am really into the nit picky numbers. I might not always know what they mean but I love to learn! I like knowing what, where and how far!

Do you have a strict nutrition/recovery regimen?
Chocolate milk and foam roll daily.

If you have any advice for folks who have yet to begin their endurance racing journey, what would it be?
1. Enjoy the Journey! 2. Always be willing to push yourself a little harder. You can do ANYTHING that you set your mind to. 3. Whatever your goal may be, Never, ever give up!!

Performance Therapy
"after each session with Mike Dannenberg,
I walk away with new tools and a better understanding for how I can improve my running form and overall training performance. Not only is he an expert at the ART technique, he's taught me a lot about nutrition and hydration - all of the things needed for great athletic performance on and off the race course!"

Performance Therapy
"I have been going to see Mike and Matt at Performance Therapy for a few months now and all I can say is that they live up to the promise of their name! PERFORMANCE + THERAPY as in I've been experiencing tremendous gains in my endurance sports performance without the debilitating injuries that I have had in the past when pushing my body too hard. Mike has been using ART and other techniques to work on some serious scar tissue in my hamstring, but has also worked on correcting various inefficiencies in my running gait and posture. Matt is my strength coach and has been working with me on my mobility and fostering new movement patterns to correct my bad habits. A well earned 5 star rating for Performance Therapy! Top marks."
